Each year, the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre hosts over 320 events that together generate an annual economic benefit of some $250 million. Here's a sampling of a few major events taking place over the next month:

 




Canada Day at Canada Place:
July 1, 2005

What's it about? It's Canada 's birthday! And everyone's invited to a free festival at Canada Place . The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by an evening concert that starts at 7:45 p.m.

Number of Delegates per day: approximately 15,000

Approximate spending by delegates: $ 660,600

Event history: Canada Day at Canda Place and the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre has been an annual event since 1987.

Features of interest: This year's theme, “ The True North – Fun and Free” celebrates Canada 's regional diversity with entertainers from across the country .  The traditional Citizenship Ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. on the Celebrate Canada Main Stage, and other highlights include live acts on three entertainment stages, an Aboriginal Village , the Interactive Zone for families, virtual games, street artists, and food festival. An evening concert featuring the Prairie band, Wide Mouth Mason will perform songs from their latest album and wrap up the event. Happy Birthday, Canada !




Canadian Bar Association Annual Meeting: August 13 – 16, 2005

What's it about?
The Canadian Bar Association has divided their Continuing Legal Education program into six themes: Law in the Digital Age; Emerging Issues; Rights and Freedoms; Effective Management; Practice Niches; and Classic popular programs. Note: This is an industry-only event

Number of Delegates per day: approximately 1,200

Approximate spending by delegates: $1,321,200

Event history: This is the first time the Canadian Bar Association has held their annual meeting at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre. In 1996, the Canadian Bar Association held their Commonwealth Lawyers Convention at the VCEC.
