Opened in July 1987, the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) with its distinctive five sails roofline is a Vancouver waterfront landmark. The VCEC hosts some 350 events and 650,000 daily delegates each year.

This first class facility features 91,200 sq.ft. of column free exhibition space, an adjoining 16,600 sq.ft. ballroom and 20 meeting rooms for groups of 8 to 600. It can accommodate up to 8,000 reception guests, or up to 6,000 in a banquet setting.

In addition to the 40 full-time staff, the VCEC relies on seven official and contracted suppliers who provide a variety of services, from catering and housekpeeping to security and audio-visual. Together these firms provide a pool of more than 1,400 part-time staff for the facility and its Clients.

The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre is a primary economic generator, creating broad economic impacts as a consequence of the influx of delegates and event attendees it supports by hosting a wide variety of conventions, meetings, trade and consumer shows and banquet events. These benefits take the form of tax revenues as well as both direct and indirect new business for a wide variety of sectors and regions throughout B.C.

Amongst the direct beneficiaries of VCEC activities are hotels, meeting organizers, display and audiovisual services, airlines and food and beverage suppliers. Indirect beneficiaries are restaurants, retail outlets, travel suppliers and transportation companies, both locally and in the many regions that benefit from pre and post conference travel.

These benefits total about $250 million each year to all regions and sectors in the province. The largest portion of this amount is attributable to the convention area, with trade show activities as the second largest contributor. The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre is operated by PavCo (The British Columbia Pavilion Corporation), a crown corporation which manages four major British Columbia public facilities: Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, BC Place Stadium, Tradex and Bridge Studios.
